Please (don’t) Touch *, is a pair of interactive sculptures formed from opposing materials: one carved from white chalk, the other from black charcoal. Positioned side by side as complementary forms, the works invite visitors to do the one thing museums traditionally forbid… Touch.

Inspired by the Quranic verse, “We made you into peoples and tribes so that you may know one another” (49:13), the work explores how human connection leaves lasting traces.

Over time, traces of each sculpture are transferred onto the other through countless human interactions. White handprints accumulate on the charcoal, while dark marks slowly appear on the chalk. What begins as two distinct objects gradually becomes a record of shared contact, curiosity, and participation.*

من فضلك (لا) تلمس هو عمل فني تفاعلي يتكون من منحوتتين مصنوعتين من مادتين متضادتين؛ إحداهما منحوتة من الطباشير الأبيض والأخرى من الفحم الأسود. وُضعتا جنباً إلى جنب بوصفهما شكلين متكاملين، لتدعوا الزوار إلى القيام بالأمر الذي تمنعه المتاحف عادةً… اللمس.

يستمد العمل إلهامه من قوله تعالى: ﴿وَجَعَلْنَاكُمْ شُعُوبًا وَقَبَائِلَ لِتَعَارَفُوا﴾، ويستكشف الكيفية التي تترك بها العلاقات الإنسانية آثاراً دائمة تتجاوز لحظتها العابرة.

ومع مرور الوقت، تنتقل آثار كل منحوتة إلى الأخرى عبر تفاعلات الزوار المتكررة. فتتراكم بصمات الأيدي البيضاء على سطح الفحم، بينما تظهر العلامات الداكنة تدريجياً على الطباشير الأبيض. وما يبدأ كقطعتين متمايزتين يتحول شيئاً فشيئاً إلى سجل بصري حي للتواصل الإنساني والفضول والمشاركة، حيث تصبح آثار الزوار جزءاً لا يتجزأ من العمل الفني ذاته.
